Workin' It Wednesdays: New Year's Goals

Today I'm excited because I am joining my first ever link up!  Some of my favorite blogger friends (Shay and Erika) are hosting a new monthly link up called Workin' It Wednesdays.

The topic for today is New Year's goals.  This is perfect because I did a lot of thinking about my goals leading up to the new year.  I also find it so inspiring to hear about other people's goals so I'm excited to read about everyone else's as well.

I listen to Dave Ramsey's podcast from time to time and he gave a great pep talk recently on reaching your goals.  He said, "goals without a plan are just dreams."  He also said each goal must be specific, be measurable, have a time limit, be yours, and be in writing.

So, here are my goals for 2017:

Read the Bible in one year
I have The One Year Bible that guides me on what to read each day for the whole year.  It includes some Old Testament, some New Testament, some Psalm and some Proverbs in each daily reading.  This used to sound like such a daunting task, but I am loving it so much!  The plan is so clear and doable on a daily basis.  I'm so looking forward to this time in God's Word and thankful for the accountability and motivation this plan offers me to make reading my Bible a consistent priority in my life.

Financial freedom
Michael and I sat down together toward the end of December and laid out a plan that will allow us to be debt free (darn you student loans!) in an exact time frame.  There is some potential to meet this goal even sooner than planned, so we'll see!  We are so excited for this goal to become a reality!

Host friends and family
Michael and I really want to be intentional about having friends and family over for supper, to talk, to play games and to just hang out together.  We've set a goal of doing this a minimum of once a month.  Hopefully we can do it more often, but in reality life is busy and we also have set a pretty tight grocery budget for ourselves in order to meet our previous financial goal.  That being said, supper does not have to be fancy or spendy to enjoy each other's company, so hopefully we will far exceed this goal, but once a month is a minimum.

Be more active
I've set a goal of intentionally exercising three days a week and just being more active in general.  I plan to for sure do some MAX T3 surge training, but want to incorporate other exercises as well.  Let me know if you have any favorites!  I also want to get out and about with the kiddos more.  I'm naturally a homebody.  It's also amazing how time consuming it is just to get from one day to the next with three little ones to care for.  Not to mention, it takes a decent amount of effort just to get them and all the stuff we need loaded in the car.  But we have a zoo membership and a children's museum membership that we plan to get lots of use out of this winter to get us out and moving.  Then of course come spring it will be more natural to get outside and to the park, etc.

Cut out sugar and drink more water
Hi, my name is Angela and I'm a sugar addict.  You guys, be so proud of me because we are 11 days into the new year and I have not eaten any sweets (ice cream, desserts, candy, etc.) this year.  This might truly be a [pathetic] record for me.  Now my plan is not to be perfect with this, but to have those sorts of things be the exception and not the norm and I'm trying to get through all of January without any of it.  I'm also notorious for not drinking enough water, especially for a nursing mama, so I'm working on that as well and trying to keep tabs on how much water I'm drinking each day.

More quality time with my hubby and kiddos
Michael and I have a goal of having a date night once a week.  Typing that made me laugh, hahaha!  It sounds so unattainable, but we are planning to make it work by doing dates at home after the kiddos are in bed three weeks of the month and then getting a babysitter or swapping date nights with friends once a month.  We also want to have a family night once a week where we play games, snuggle while watching a movie, or do something else where we're intentionally spending time together.  Comment if you have any fun family time ideas for us!

Well there you have it!  My 2017 goals.  Man this makes me feel good.  I love being organized and having a plan.  Now here's to actually executing them! But let's be real, I need God's grace daily and I'm thankful His mercies are new every morning!  Happy New Year everyone!

  7. Great goals - I think being intentional about having family and friends over is great. We try to get something on the calendar once a month and you are right with busy schedules that can be a stretch! I have 3 little people too but 1 is off to elementary school...I hear you on getting things done with all the little hands to help ;)! xoxo Erin
